Today’s post is short, sweet, and to the point.

Let’s talk about dreams. I want you to think back to your childhood. Can you count the number of times someone told you to follow your dreams? It is pretty hard, huh? This statement seems to be drilled into the minds of young children. As we grew up we often tend to lose sight of our dreams and put them on the backburner. There is always some reason why one of our dreams can’t be fulfilled. These reasons may include not having enough time, being worried about the cost it might take, or never actually taking action to make them happen.

All I have to say about this is FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. Life is so short. Work hard. Set goals. Be spontaneous. Save and spend your money on the adventures and experiences your heart desires. Never let any time or money constraint get in the way of your dreams.

I recently began to work extra hard on making this a priority in my life. In December, I booked a flight to Nashville. This is the first major trip I have organized, put together, and paid for all by myself. After graduating from high school and finishing my first year of college I never thought this would be possible. I work so hard to make enough money to pay my bills and place money into savings. I will tell you giving up those few nights where I didn’t go out to the movies or dinner with friends because I wanted to save money has paid off. I am seeing the benefits of it now. I am not telling you to never go out and do fun things but rather spend your money wisely.

Some of my biggest dreams are coming true this summer and it has been a complete whirlwind these past two months booking these trips. I get to explore Nashville for a week and soak in the rich history and country music. I also get to see my favorite country artists, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in concert twice in July. If this wasn’t already enough to make my heart full God blessed me even more. I was able to get enough money together to make a huge dream of mine come true. In July of this year, I get to road trip to South Dakota. I get to see Mount Rushmore for the second summer in a row and I get to meet Faith and Tim.

After this summer, I am not sure many experiences will the joy these dreams bring me. However, my next goal is to spoil my younger brother with a high school senior trip that I was never able to experience. I am sure that with a lot of hard work, goals, and trust I can make another dream of spoiling my younger brother come true!

Everything I just shared is proof that hard work, setting goals, trusting in God, and following your dreams can bring you great joy, memories, experiences and more. Trust me it is worth the hard work and dedication it takes to achieve your goals. The joy you will get from knowing you have worked to make your biggest dreams come true is indescribable. I urge each one of your to do the same. Who knows maybe your wildest dreams can come true!?

Dear Future Husband

A year ago, I completed a bible study that focused on praying for my future spouse. (link below) Along with the daily bible verses was a challenge to either rewrite the prayer provided or make it your own. This bible study was the start of a different perspective on singleness and a new way to deal with the frustrations of it.

Trying to learn to be content in singleness is often incredibly hard. Yes, I know I am only nineteen years old so please do not try and tell me I shouldn’t be worrying about this. If you were in my position looking around and seeing countless friends, colleagues, and random strangers all enjoying their relationships, proposals, weddings, and starting a family you would understand what I am going through. It wouldn’t be my first time saying my biggest aspiration in life is to get married to the “love of my life” and start a family together. This aspiration is what makes be single so difficult. Although I am young not being asked on dates or talked to by any male makes me feel as if my dream is going nowhere.

There are so many things I want and instead of getting angry about the unknown I chose to pray for you and the life we will share together.

Over this past year, I have learned that when I begin to feel unwanted emotions about singleness it is easiest for me to grab a journal and write to my future husband and God. I write to my future husband about what I am praying about and write prayers to God about my future husband. I looked over a handful of my entries and decided to compile them into one letter I wrote and prayed about.

Dear Future Husband,

I am not even sure where to begin. There are so many things I want to tell you and so many questions I want answers to. I know you are out there somewhere and I wish I didn’t have to wait so long to know who you are. I pray for you often and I wish you knew that. I am not always the most patient when it comes to meeting you. I want to know who you are, your life story, what you are like, and what your dreams for this life are. Often times I sit around and wonder what you are like at church. I wonder if you quietly connect with our Lord or raise your hands high in surrender like I do. I am eager to know if you will be up for adventures. I want to discover new cities, places, and destinations with you by my side. I want to know about your upbringing and whether you are close with your family.  I want to be able to show you the love I already have for you. I want to create a habit of reading our bible daily and praying together. I want to get married and set a good example for our future children on what it means to respect and love one another. I want to create a home where our children will always want to run home to and share it with their friends. I want to create traditions that can be passed down for generations to come. I want you to know that I will be your biggest fan, encourager, and confidant. I want to share in your successes and your failures. I want to fulfill our purposes and callings in this life together. I want to explore the world together and share memories in some of the most beautiful places God placed on this earth. I want you to know that you will be loved and supported. I want you to know I eagerly await the day you come into my life and change it all for good. I imagine our first dates and special days. I imagine coming down the aisle, staring at you, and being so incredibly thankful that God blessed my life with a man as strong, courageous, and loving as you. I imagine the day I tell you we are expecting and that my dream of being a mother is coming true. I imagine so many small and big milestones that I pray we are able to share together one day. I imagine the good and bad times and being willing to rely on God through them all.

God, I pray that he is drawing near and building on his relationship with you each day.  I pray that he is leaning on you when temptations of this world come into his life. I pray that he is working and preparing for his future and striving to be a man of integrity. I pray that he is trusting you through it all. I pray that he is finding happiness in you today and every day. I pray that you are giving him the patience to wait upon you in bringing us together. Amen.

I just can’t wait for the day you finally come into my life.

Your Future Wife.

I challenge each one of you to take special moments are pray for your future spouse. Trust in God and His timing and focus on yourself and your relationship with God while you are single because God will bring you a man when you are ready.

Goals are such an important aspect of life. Creating goals provides you with a place to focus your energy and efforts. Those who know me well know I cannot live without my planners, lists, and organizers. It provides a sense of structure and I have been creating lists for years. Balance is essential

As the new semester begins tomorrow, I am already being swamped with emails, expectations, due dates, meetings, and piles of obligations. The thought of trying to balance work, school, other commitments, and still have a social life is often overwhelming. Through all the craziness of life, I am reminded that I have done it for three semesters and can do it for five more.

I have always had the drive to work hard for what I want and need to accomplish in life. I find success in being busy. When I have a lot to accomplish I tend to manage my time better, have more motivation, and get a tremendous amount of work done. Sadly, often times I take on too many obligations and begin to feel in over my head. I eventually have to force myself to take a step back and reevaluate my priorities. Once those are determined, I find the time to concentrate scheduled time and energy on my top priorities.

Balance is essential. It is a feeling or sense of harmony. It is essential to maintain your balance because without it things become too overwhelming to handle. Allowing yourself to become overwhelmed tends to make you less productive and far too stressed. Trust me when I say, I don’t have it all together when it comes to balance.

Below you will find the top six things I feel are most important to me regarding a balanced life.

  1. It is okay to say no. My biggest weakness is my inability to say no when it needs to be said. I want to help everyone, get involved in numerous projects, and the obligations begin to pile up and before I know it I seem to have lost control. When this happens, I cannot complete each task to the quality I expect of myself and become frustrated. I had to learn this the hard way. I still struggle with this often but seeing the benefits of being willing to say no has been incredible. I don’t say no because I don’t want to help or I don’t care about someone in my life. I say no if I think I cannot handle the obligations that come along with saying no.
  2. Get organized. When it comes to staying organized my planner becomes my best friend. Most people who know me would say I get a little crazy with my planners, to-do lists, and organizers. I will be the first to say I have way too many, but it is a habit that helps me stay focused and prioritized. Each one has its designated purpose in providing organization and structure to my hectic daily schedule. One planner is chalked full of my thoroughly planned schedule while the next is a list of each assignment for school that is due each day of the week, and the last is full of my to-do lists regarding every other aspect in my life. Whether it be the gym, my meals, or sorority meetings or deadlines, it is all written out and color coded. Now please do not feel the need to go as crazy as I do, but a little organization and structure never hurt anyone and hopefully you will find it helpful.
  3. Daily routines. Following a daily routine seems to work out really well for me. I wake up and usually start my day out with the same activities and then head for the door. Each day at work or school is mapped out in my planners so I do not have to worry about it throughout the day and focus on completing the tasks at hand. I come home and yet again have another routine I follow. Although these are not exactly the same each day, creating a pretty balanced routine helps to keep you on track and remember to take care of yourself throughout the day.
  4. Have support systems. I believe that having friends and family who encourage and cheer you on each day of life really helps to keep me motivated. If you don’t already have someone in your life who you can go to for advice, reassurance, or help try and find someone who is willing to go through this journey of life with you. It makes things much easier and enjoyable.
  5. Simplify your life and schedule. Over this past year, I had to sit down and simplify my life and schedule. It was so hard for me to choose between so many activities that had stolen my heart. It is never easy letting go of something you strongly care about. Throughout the simplifying process, I realized that I didn’t have to always give something up for good. An example of this would be my choice to step away from being a leader in my church high school ministry. I loved seeing the students I lead get together each week and pour into each other. Although I miss this more than anything I realized that giving this up didn’t mean it was forever, it meant that this moment in my life wasn’t the right time to be the leader I wanted to be. Even though I gave this up I fully intend to return when I believe it is the right time in my life. All of this to remind you to be willing to simplify and cut down your schedule to make it more manageable.
  6. I often forget that the mind, body, and soul need time to relax, renew, and refresh. It is critical to set aside downtime to take care of yourself and enjoy life. When you step away from the crazy and listen to the silence of life you gain a perspective that can help you make better decisions and work to create a better-balanced life. Take “me” time. Whether that is taking a bath, staying in for the night, spending time reading a book, or working out “me” time helps relieve stress and keep you grounded in yourself. I urge you to never forget to set aside time for yourself.

All of us need to begin to recognize and remember how important balance is in our lives. Set goals for yourself regarding time management that include time to spend with family and taking care of yourself. Realize that personal needs should come before anything else because if you aren’t taking care of yourself how do you expect to care for others? Balance isn’t easy for me and I have to work for it daily, but I can assure you the benefits are quick to be noticed.

Thought for this next week: Is your life balanced?

La vie est bella.

La vie est bella. Life is beautiful

It is plain and simple, isn’t it? As humans, we want to believe it is an easily understandable concept. Although life is beautiful, it has the potential to be overwhelming and chaotic. However, I am asking that you join me in seeking the good, the bright, and the positive things in life. Each day we have the opportunity to laugh, cry, and take advantage of the simple joy that life is beautiful. All of these opportunities are one of the many gifts life has to offer.

Let’s begin with the fact that we all woke up this morning with breath in our lungs. We have the opportunity to show love, compassion, and make a difference in the day ahead. When seeking to see the beauty things in life, perspective is a place to start at the dawn of each day.

It is all about perspective.

A couple of months ago I challenged myself to wake up each morning with a positive attitude about the potential of a new day. Sounds easy enough right? I challenge you to try and do the same. Begin by finding your own perspective and personal desire to seek the positive aspects of life. If you wake up in a bad mood, try not to stay in one because it’s worth learning to make the best ofwhat you have.

To start my day off on the right foot, I found a powerful statement that helps to remind me of what I want to accomplish in the day ahead. The powerful statement I begin each day with is as follows: “Live your dream. Show compassion. Create your own happiness. Follow your heart. Enjoy the little things. Laugh out loud. Be your best self. Cherish every moment. Dream big. Embrace every possibility. Discover your passion. Believe in miracles. Create peace. Make a wish. Be spontaneous. Remember to breathe. Fall in love. Today is the day.”

Let those words soak in for a moment.

Such simple words, yet so powerful. Each piece of this saying has its own beautiful, powerful meaning and contributes in a small way to making life beautiful. I just had to take the leap of faith and be willing to live by these words. I want to challenge you once again to find something powerful to start each day off with and you will be surprised at the difference it can make.

Don’t worry I didn’t forget that we all have those days. These are the days where you feel as if everything is going wrong and it is inevitable to get down on ourselves. There will always be these days however, we all must try to seek the good things in life especially during the moments whenwe feel as if nothing is going our way.

Quiet chaos.

Life can become busy, chaotic, and stressful and we begin to miss the opportunities to celebrate the little things and express gratitude for every blessing granted to us. Sadly, it seems to me that humans are wired to notice the negative things before the positive. We all become so wrapped up in the chaos and forget to use the ability to seek perspective.

When I am having a bad day, I force myself to take a step back and examine what is contributing to my emotions. This is real life. I have a choice to let those emotions ruin my day or I can choose to take full advantage of every moment of the day. Instead of getting down on myself, I have to remember that someone like me doesn’t come along often. Iam unique. I have to steer away from the negative and focus on the positive. I am supposed to seek my own perspectives, beliefs, adventures, and memories.  I have a purpose here in this world. It took me a long time to realize all of this due to the world often making me feel as if I am unworthy, unloved, and unwanted. However, I am always reminded that I am loved, worthy and wanted. Whether that is by someone in my life, or whether it is the comfort I find in my belief in God, there is someone who loves me and celebrates my victories in life.

For those of you reading, you are so loved. You are wanted, worthy, and celebrated. Try and be willing to celebrate being unique and seek to find your own perspectives, beliefs, adventures, and memories. Focus on the positive and be grateful for each moment, no matter how hard the moments may be.

Take it from me, a woman who used to have so many complicated emotions about life and my favorite artist, “it’s not complicated to embrace life. You just have to make the choice” to do it.

Follow your own path.

La vie est bella is a constant reminder to never take life for granted. Take a moment today and look around at how incredible life is. It is a personal choice to choose to embrace the life we have been graciously granted.  I named this blog “la vie est bella” because no matter how messy, chaotic, or crazy life can get there will always be beauty in having breath in your lungs.

I want to leave you with this…

Remember to be mindful of the life you have been granted. Please never forget to remain grateful for the breath in your lungs. Always seek to find new perspectives, show love, show compassion, and focus on the positive things. Always find a reason to laugh each day, spread kindness wherever you go. Above all else remember that you are loved, wanted, and worthy. It is my hope you will join me in embracing life and realizing how beautiful it all is.

Find a reason to laugh every day.

A New Adventure

Over the past few years, I have begun to comprehend what I want in life and what makes me happy. One of the greatest skills I have acquired over the past 19 years has been the ability to express myself through words. Writing provides me with a sense of freedom, relaxation, and self-awareness unlike anything else. It has become apart of my daily routine. I have wrestled with the idea of creating a blog since I graduated high school. As I woke up after a night out on New Year’s Day, the thought came to me again. Why haven’t you started a blog? Why was I hesitating and putting it off? If I am being completely transparent it could be due to insecurities, the fear of not producing rich content, and no one being interested in reading my posts. Moments after these thoughts ran through my mind, I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. What was I doing? Who cares if people don’t want to read my posts.

This is the year. Most people create resolutions and stick with them for a few weeks or months before losing the motivation. This year I am choosing to challenge myself to create and upkeep this blog. I have doubts, but I have completed the first step of creating the blog. Now I have the incredible challenge of expressing my thoughts on a regular basis in the form of a blog post. This blog will contain documentation of my adventures, experiences, triumphs, downfalls, and whatever else comes to mind. I am doing this with the hope that it will enrich just one individuals life and push me to go beyond this year. I couldn’t be more excited to see what this year has to hold and have the opportunity to continually see God’s hand in my life.

Cheers to 2018.
